2021 Snowflake Challenge #1: Introduce Yourself

Challenge #1

In your own space, introduce yourself! Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

Since I already have an introduction/welcome post, here's five facts about me:

1. The fictional character I most identify with is Boober Fraggle. He's a creature of routine, deeply suspicious of excitement and adventure. His idea of a good day is sitting quietly at home, drinking tea and eating cookies. He also knows the only certainties in this world are death and laundry. (Come to think of it, Boober would probably make a good hobbit.)

2. Lately I have a thing for maps. Several are hanging on my walls right now: one of the world, one of Cyrodiil, one of Skyrim, and two of Ultima's Britannia.

3. Though I've grown up with computers and enjoy learning technical things to this day, there are times when I'm afraid of what technology is doing to us as a society. It's part of why I no longer have a Facebook or Twitter account, why I use Linux when I can, and why I avoid doing much with my phone.

4. I've been working on the same Skyrim fanfic series for nearly five years, and I'm probably only halfway done. Eek.

5. The thing I most missed doing in 2020 is sitting in coffee shops to write in a notebook, or do some reading, or both.

Hi! Here from snowflake, and OMG, your number 5, I can so relate! I miss that like crazy! It has been almost impossible to write at home, which was something I hadn't expected. Too many other things competing for my attention.

I definitely wouldn't mind living the Hobbit life, although those elves in Rivendell sure have it nice too...

I know, I miss it so bad! There are a lot of things I look forward to doing again once the vaccines are in wide circulation, but this one's way up on the list. And just getting out of the house D:

Ooh, I've never heard of Boober Fraggle (will be googling as soon as I finish typing) but it sounds like many of us have turned into him this year (especially here in the UK). Staying home drinking tea and eating cookies is a lot safer than venturing outside over here these days :)

Aren't maps wonderful. Whether they are real world or made up worlds I find them fascinating!

Oh and sitting in coffee shops ... around here we're lucky if coffee shops are actually open. I so miss them and being able to meet friends for a chat!

Boober Fraggle would be doing his duty during a pandemic for sure, because he's all about staying safe in a hidey-hole and avoiding horrible germs. He's from an '80s Jim Henson show called Fraggle Rock, which is a lot fun.

Maps are great! I'm trying to make a point of looking up places on a map whenever I read about them in a book or article. The fantasy world maps make things feel more cozy for some reason.

Lol, I googled it as soon as I posted. I didn't make the connection to Fraggle Rock. It came a bit after my childhood and probably wasn't so prominent here in the UK but I had heard of it and probably watched it a few times as well.

I'm currently doing my family tree and have been getting hold of some really old maps online, like from the 1800s, it's fascinating to compare them to todays maps and see how the places have grown and how the names have evolved over time. Like the village where my father was born and grew up, one area was called Bumbles Green, but in the 1800s it was actually called Bummers Green. I can understand why they changed it, lol.

Oh, that's cool! And Bumbles Green sounds cute and funny, but Bummers Green is definitely hilarious, LOL

Fraggles! I have such fond memories of them. And of sitting in cafes with a book and a steaming cup of tea.

So do I! It feels like a good year to watch Fraggle Rock again. I need something bouncy and uplifting.

I’m not familiar with Boober but he definitely sounds hobbit like!

Ohh maps! I have an elder scrolls one somewhere I need to hang up, though I’m not sure where it’s ended up

Five years for the same series? That’s impressive!

I've enjoyed having the Elder Scrolls maps above my desk. Something about a nice map makes a fantasy world feel more real.

I'm a miserably slow but persistent writer (so far). I'll be relieved when the series is wrapped up, because it's one of those things I don't want to leave unfinished when my time is up... whenever that is!

Oh I agree, I do love seeing maps to things. Knowing where everything is in relation to each other makes it feel, like you say, more real.
