Looking Back At March
Saturday, March 28th, 2020 10:07 pmNo, it's not the end of March yet, but I'm ready to say goodbye to this month of fear and uncertainty and toilet paper shortages. April will likely be more of the same and then some, but at least it's a new month.
Writing: My draft for chapter 17 of Throat of the World is still a mess. I have a sense of the structure and what needs to happen, but I'm fumbling with words more than usual. I'll keep at it.
Drawing: I've been focusing on heads and faces lately, and I think I need to stick with the Loomis method. It consistently gives me better results and seems to reinforce what I need to know about the structure and proportions of the head. When I try the "draw a circle and add a jaw" method, I get really weird faces. Sometimes the eyes are so high they're floating up into the forehead, or the face looks like it's melting or something. I'm perfectly capable of screwing up with the Loomis method too, just not as badly.
Reading: My reading took a dive. By this time last year I had finished 18 books. This year? Eight. If I'm lucky, I may finish nine books by the end of March. This month I've read Negotiating the Nonnegotiable by Daniel Shapiro and two books by Bob Woodward, Fear and State of Denial.
